Some feedback from women who have experienced the Beautiful Life Project:

“I am 64 and have been married to a wonderful man for 36 years.  He is amazing!  I was, however, married twice before, and still do not believe my husband when he says he loves me!  I so identify who all you say and I have been trying, since the breakup of my first marriage, to feel I am worthy.  I think you are amazing, and I will follow this project!” - Lona

“It was by chance that I came across your website, and boy am I glad I did!  I’ve just come out of an eating disorder clinic and I wanted to thank you for being brave enough to share your journey!  More importantly, when you’re in doubt of what it is that you’re doing... just remember that YOU have made a positive difference to my life and undoubtably many others!” - Gabriella

“I’m blown away by your courage to expose yourself like this!  I’m resonating so much that it’s scary!” - Moosh

“I cannot begin to tell you that what I think you have started here is awesome!” - Nadine

“Today, by pure coincidence, I stumbled upon your website and I am sitting here, weeping my heart out as it is such a relief to know I am not on my own... realising that there are many women - fat and thin - going through these feelings of worthlessness” - Natasja

“Thank you for such a refreshing and inspiring evening!  I would like to applaud you for the work you’re doing.  It is almost a relief to find other women feeling the same fear as I do, also feeling uncertain, also feeling so hurt and sad sometimes due to past pain, that it overshadows any chance you have of looking in the mirror and finding a grain of acceptance.  It is such an inspiration to me to learn from your beauty and your strength.  I believe in the MOVEMENT!” - Karien

“Wow, how awesome are you?  Finally someone addressing such a huge problem that no one ever talks about.  Was having a particularly self-loathing, “what-the-f*ck-is-wrong-with-me” day and discovered your project.  Thanks, it gives me hope that tomorrow will be a better day!” - Tracey

“Thanks for all that you are doing for thousands of women like myself!” - Ingrid

The Beautiful Life Project offers a number of workshops, presentations and courses, tailor-made for your specific function or conference.

We really believe in the value of storytelling and experiences... so courses and workshops are designed to be as fun, interactive and interesting as possible.

Our workshops incorporate:

Music, Film, Multi-media, Interactive Demonstrations, Creativity, Give-Aways, Discussions and so much more!  We try to keep things as interesting and thought-provoking as possible.

We also present self-esteem workshops specifically designed for girls between the ages of 10 - 19.  Schools, churches or other organisations dealing with the needs of girls might be interested in booking us for these.

There are a number of topics that we like to focus on, but if there’s something specific you’d like us to address (ie: eating disorders or self-mutilation) - that’s very doable too!

Topics:

We cover a wide range of topics, depending on the age and background of the group that we’re addressing.

Some of these include:

  1. BulletThe way that the media and advertising affects the self-esteem of women and girls (loads of images and multi-media in this presentation).

  2. BulletLearning more about the toxic culture that teaches women and girls to hate their own bodies - and what we can do about it.

  3. BulletGreat Expectations (are we really supposed to be trying to live up to all of the expectations placed upon our lives by family / friends / church / society / etc...?)

  4. BulletEscape One-Day-When land!

  5. BulletDo what makes you come alive! (a practical work-shop which helps women to discover their gifts, talents, skills and passion - and combine the lot in order to discover what makes them come alive!)

  6. BulletRe-defining beauty!

  7. BulletPractical ways to nurture self-love... (and to put an end to damaging patterns of self-abuse).

  8. Bullet“Stories & Songs” is a creative concert involving storytelling, music and multi-media (Heather shares a lot of her testimony and personal story with this event).

Requirements:

Because we are creative, visual people - we like to use a lot of slides and movies in our presentations.  We have our own screen and projector (if you’d like us to present at a small group) - or we could plug a laptop into a projector & sound system that you already have available.

For workshops, we prefer to keep groups smaller and more intimate (especially when it comes to girls) - since we encourage a lot of discussion and quite a few mini-projects that we ask the girls to work on together.

We can certainly present to a large group (say a school hall) full of girls - but, in those circumstances, it would be less like a workshop - and more like a presentation or a talk.

We’re based in Johannesburg, South Africa - but more than willing to travel.  If you need us to present workshops in another city (or country) - please be aware that travel and accommodation costs will need to be for your account (on top of the workshop/course fee).

Fees:

Workshop fees are very reasonable and vary depending on your requirements and the amount of women attending (starting from R3000 for a half-day workshop).

NB - please don’t let the fee put you off!  If you are a small group (or church or non-profit organisation), or are putting together a smaller meeting and you can’t afford much - just chat to us, and we can work something out for you.
